Anamur, Turkey

Anamur is a holiday town and its name in ancient age in Anemurium. Ancient city is located a highland of Cilicia Region. Name of the city passes in the ancient sources in B.C. 4th Century for the first time. City develops substantially in Roman period. It is exposed to Arabian invasion in 7th Century, Turks come and settle here by beginning from 11th Century and they dominate the region. Remains of theater, palestra, Odeon, basilica, baths and other buildings are located in Anemurium ancient city. Works, unearthed from excavtions, made on the ancient city, are exhibited in Anamur Museum. A castlei which is protected very well, is located in the seaside in 8km. east of Anamur. Castle, constructed by Romans in A.D. 3rd Century probably, is repaired during the reign of Karamanoğlu I. Ibrahim Bey in 14th Century and also a mosque is constructed inside it. Castle, which is in a very good condition at the end of repair, is called Mamure Castle.
