Cappadocia Underground city

Derinkuyu Underground City

An ancient and surprising underground city where thousands of people live. The underground complex of Derinkuyu is located in Cappadocia, Turkey. Since the Swiss researcher and author Erich von Daniken introduced it to the world in the 1970s with his book “The Gold of the Gods”, Derinkuyu has long been a source of questions. Especially for archaeologists in his country. It was found by accident when a man knocked down the wall of his basement. When they arrived, the archaeologists discovered that the city was 18 stories deep and had everything necessary for underground life, including schools, chapels, and even stables. Derinkuyu, the underground city of Turkey, is approximately 3,000 years old and was once home to 20,000 people.
