Pergamon had five theatres!

The antique city of Pergamon had been such an important culture center that it had been a real architectural and artistic masterpiece with the castle, palaces, many temples, holy centers, libraries, stadium, gymnasiums, roads with columns, health center, baths, toilets, houses, shops, workshops, graveyards and five theatres.

One of these theatres had been the Hellenistic theatre considered as the steepest theatre of the world. There had been two more theatres in the Upper Pergamon.

The fourth theatre had been in Asklepion and the fifth one had  been the amphitheatre with a capacity of 50 thousand persons leaning aganist the slope of the road between Kale Dağı and Asklepion. In the Roman age, this region had been the most preferred quarter of the antique city and the stadium, the houses of rich people and the graveyards too had been located here. Unfortunately, the contemporary Pergamon had been built over the hill covering the edifices and today, the concrete buildings rise over the antique city…
