Kozak Plateu’s pine nuts – Pine forest and beyond

Kozak Plateu 20 km. away from Pergamon offers perhaps the greenest and clearest landscapes of the region. As far as the road crossing the Kozak Plateu climbs, the pine trees on both sides of the road become more and more thick. The pine trees are so high, so big that this impressive picture creates a deep silence…

The principle income source of the little villages of Kozak Plateu, Kaplan, Aşağıbey and Aşağı Cuma is pine nut. The rugs and carpets in the region of Yunt Dağları present the most characteristic handicrafts of the region. Carpets, rugs, prayer rugs, saddle-bags and socks woven by using madder are easily distinguished from others with their colours and motives. The geometric designs, the plants and animal motives include local characteristics. The carpets of Pergamon with name of “Holbein” have an important place among the other models on the world. The plateu provides pleasant opportunities to the nature and hunt tourism. In addition to the pine nut, Pergamon tulum cheese (a kind of cheese made in a skin), helva with pistachios (a sweet prepared in many varieties with sesame oil, various cereals, syrup or honey) and the sweet of hoşmerim are the main tastes of the region…
