Aizanoi / Çavdarhisar

Aizanoia ancient city is located in Çavdarhisar County, in 54km. far from Kütahya Province. Koca Stream, which is called Thyndakos in the ancient age, passes through the city. Ancient city is located in two sides of this Stream and two sides are connected to each other with bridges, which are also used in these days. One part of Cavdarhisar County is located on ancient Aizanoi city. As Çavdar clans settle here during the period of Etuğrul Ghazi in 13th century, here is called Çavdarhisar. History of ancient city dates back. B.C. 1st century. Aizanoi becomes bishopric center in Christianity period. The most important structure in the city is Temple of Zeus, which is constructed in Ion order during the period of emperor Hadrian (117-138) in A.D. 2nd Century and stood magnificently şn these days. But, this temple was joint temple of Mother Goddess and Zeus. The half of the temple which fronts to the east, belongs to Main Goddess and the other half of the temple which fronts to the west, belongs to Zeus. Other structures, located in the ancient city, are Bridges, connecting two sides of city to each other, Agora and Heroon, constructed in Dor order, Gymnasium, Baths, Round Structure, Bath Building, Stadium and Theatre Complex and Colonnaded Street.
