Start your day with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Istanbul, followed by a short flight to Denizli. Upon arrival at Denizli Airport, our friendly team will meet you and transfer you to Pamukkale, where your unforgettable adventure begins.

Pamukkale, known as the “Cotton Castle” in Turkish, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis in Denizli, Turkey. During your tour, your guide will explain the fascinating natural history of this stunning landscape—how its travertine terraces were formed over millennia by the high mineral content of the thermal springs. The mineral-rich waters cascade down the mountainside, creating a surreal, white landscape that resembles a frozen waterfall. The reaction between calcium, hydrogen carbonate, and the air has created one of the world’s most unique natural wonders, and you’ll learn why this landscape is truly worth experiencing.

Day trips to Pamukkale from Istanbul

In addition to the travertine terraces, Pamukkale is home to the ancient Hierapolis city, which was an important Roman spa resort. Hierapolis was a center for thermal healing during the Roman Empire and played a significant role throughout history, especially as a prominent city in the Kingdom of Pergamon. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the ancient thermal pools, where you can swim amidst ancient ruins, just as the Romans once did. The well-preserved city of Hierapolis boasts impressive structures, including the amphitheater, the Temple of Apollo, and the Devil’s Gate, all offering glimpses into the region’s rich past.

You’ll also explore the Necropolis, one of the largest ancient cemeteries in Anatolia, where you can see a variety of sarcophagi and graves. All these historical sites are located within walking distance of the famous terraces, making it easy to take in the breathtaking beauty and history of the area in a single day.

This full-day tour includes time to relax in the warm thermal pools, walk along the white stone terraces, and explore the ancient ruins. You’ll be accompanied by an English-speaking local guide who will ensure you get the most out of your experience. After a day of natural wonders and ancient history, you’ll be transferred back to the airport for your flight back to Istanbul.
